About my school

Well SJI is a very established school which has one of the oldest history in Singapore(150years of history). Here's a bit of the history of SJI; It all started when Father Jean Marie Buriel wanted to open a school in Singapore. He asked the Bishop of France for permission, but the Bishop of France discouraged him form doing so. However he never gave up hope........and the school was built and many students rushed to the school to register. At that time, SJI was known as St John's School, and was later renamed as St Joseph School. The school had both secondary and primary students in different sessions. When WW2 came the school did not change its timetable and everything seemed normal in that particular school. The Japanese had shelled the school once with 10bombs in all. Fortunately, no one was injured except the fact that the grandfather clock was damaged. The brothers teaching in that school was shifted to Manila as the Japanese no longer needed their services, They were sharing their home in a University in Manila with a detachment of Japanese soldiers and other families taking refuge from the war. One day, the detachment of Japanese soldiers ran amok after an air raid and started to brutally slay the people inside. The brothers tried to protect everyone with nothing except their bodies. The brothers were then dubed as is the Martyrs of Manila.
